It’s been 18 months since I stopped living out of a backpack and it’s time to get going. I returned from South East Asia the end of March 2025, then moved to the lake mid May. When I moved back to my condo late September, it felt like I hadn’t been home for ages so I decided to spend the winter in North Battleford. I worked a lot and saw my people. All 4 kids play hockey and sometimes that meant 3 rinks in a day! The winter was mild and I didn’t miss travelling at all.
My plans have lately been tentative because my Dad is 96 and my Mom is 88. Up until a couple weeks ago they were living in their own condo. For 2.5 years we have been trying to get them to move into some sort of assisted living and finally September 4 they agreed to move into the Edam Manor. Dad has since moved to Acute Care in Turtleford where hopefully he can get rid of his vertigo and bum leg. Meanwhile Mom enjoys not cooking and regularly seeing Jane and the kids. I feel confident they are well looked after and so my bag is packed.
I leave Saskatoon later this morning for Porto, Portugal where I am meeting my Dutch friend Marijanne. We will walk part of the Portuguese Camino, from Porto to Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
The adventure begins!
