Battambang to Kampot, Cambodia
I had an ok sleep but was up at 4:30. I hate that but if you can’t fall asleep, what can you do? At least I was comfortable in my room - not too hot.
I walked to the van depot and realized I hadn’t paid at the hostel! I didn’t have time to go back so sent them a message and eventually a worker came on her scooter to get the money. Most places take your money when you check in and I think that’s what threw me. Either that or the heat is affecting my brain! Anyway, I was feeling like a thief for a while!
It was a long day in vans with 8 hours of travel. We changed vans at Phnom Phen which is a huge city. Along the way I visited with people from the UK.
Same same!
We stopped a couple of times for a bathroom break and at one spot saw these wild animals in cages. This might be a binturong but I’m not sure-
I don’t know what they are and I don’t know why you would want to keep something wild locked up in a cage. There was a monkey that was jumping around and going from wall to wall. I felt very sorry for him.
This is a nice idea –
I arrived at Kampot at 5:30, as scheduled and if I could read a map I’d have been at my hotel 2 miles earlier. Oh well, the walk did me good after sitting all day.
The Apsara Guesthouse-
seems fine. At least I have great air-conditioning.
I wandered around and found the tourist area all lit up –
Prices are 50-75% higher!
Tomorrow I will take a tour and then plan to go to Phnom Penh late afternoon. Time is flying!
