Hanoi to Sapa, Vietnam
Sapa is in the northwest corner of Vietnam, just south of China.
I was up around 3 - just couldn’t sleep! I found the bus stop easily and lucked out by getting a bottom berth-
right behind the driver-
Looking back-
There are three beds across and one up but at the very back there are 5 beds side by side. I’m very glad I didn’t have to sit/lay there.
We had to take our shoes off upon entering and put them in a plastic bag-
Then when we got off they had a bucket of slip ons to wear outside.
I was able to take pictures from my window and also through the windshield. They’re not the best but better than nothing. Leaving Hanoi-
Carrying on-
It is beautiful country-
I’m not sure what religion the cemeteries belong to but there are also lots of tombs placed randomly in rice fields-
We stopped twice for bathroom breaks and food. I tried the square thing- sticky rice, the pogo- a sweet crust wrapped around a weiner, and a donut, made yesterday. It all was very mediocre-
I knew the forecast so was not surprised to see it get cloudier, foggier and misty.
Along the way-
Once in Sapa the bus stopped on a busy street and we had to get out! I popped into a shop across the street and the girl found my homestay on google maps and helped me get rainproofed. It only took 15 minutes to walk to Sapa Harmony Homestay-
The family lives on the main floor behind the lobby-
After getting settled I went walking-
It’s worse than I thought!
I found an inside restaurant, had an egg coffee- very small and very bad-
and a burger. I tried looking for an ATM but it was so foggy I didn’t want to get lost-
I went back to my hotel and surfed the internet. I don’t even have a book to read and if the forecast is correct, the weather will be like this until I leave Wednesday afternoon! And to think two days ago it was sunny and beautiful like this-
I guess I will have to come back!
P.S.
Nico was in a 4H speech competition in Viscount. He placed second so now goes on to provincials April 26th-
