San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, el cuatro de Enero, 2020

I had a very slow and relaxing day.  I hung out at my place for the morning then went strolling around.  I took a few pictures of things I’ve already seen but the sunshine and blue sky were beautiful so here’s Templo de Nuestra Señora de la Salud-

Oratorio de San Felipe Neri-

and a working fountain-

I thought I should try a few more Allende craft beer so had the IPA - yuck, the lager- yuck and then another at 8%.  They all really tasted the same - I am so done with craft beer.

Lunch was at a TripAdvisor suggestion - why?  I can get just as good of tacos on the street for about 1/3 of the money.  I had a shrimp taco and some other kind of fish-

They were good but certainly not worth the additional cost to sit at a table on a hard stool inside.

I’ve been trying to get a good shot of this all week but there’s always a car parked in front=-

And beside-

This afternoon I wandered down to Hank’s which is an expat bar.  I sat at the bar alone for awhile and then two older women, one 79 and the other had to be 85 squeezed in beside me.  We had a great couple of hours. 79 is from Ireland and 85 from Wales - they both live here.  Ireland worked and lived in Kenya and Jamaica for a long time but has been here 20 years.  Her son committed suicide in Charleston about a year ago and she’s still struggling with that.  We had a good visit about loss.  Wales spent most of the time talking to the couple beside her.  They both love living here but what I’m finding to be typical is that even after all that time, neither speak Spanish. I think that’s really sad and disrespectful to the country.  I understand their thinking - their friends speak English and anyone they come into contact with speaks English too, but I’d want to learn and am learning for the experience of culture and the challenge.  Each to his own I guess.

I‘ve enjoyed my time in San Miguel but am looking forward to moving on to Guadalajara in the morning although it will be very hard to beat this bedroom!
