Day 20  Calzadilla de La Cueza to Sahagún, Spain, October 11, 2022

Despite the size of the room, everyone was super quiet except Mirjanne who snores. Ha ha!  I had a very good sleep and we were out of the hostel by 7:30, heading to a local restaurant for breakfast.

Today’s route was 22km and it was nice to have a village to stop in every few kilometres –

My intention for the day was asking what my purpose is. Many people are walking the Camino for that very reason. Should they change jobs? What should they do with their lives? Me, I think I’ve had a pretty good life. I had a great career and I raised two awesome kids but now as I am 60, where does it go from here? It came to me that my purpose at this point in my life is to look after my family and to me that means helping Jane and Mitch as much as I can and being a support to my mom and dad.  And so, that goes back to my idea about from now on my trips will be much shorter. I FaceTime my mom and dad just about every day just to make sure they are doing OK. When I am at home I try to spend  at least one day/week with Jane and her family.   I think I’m on the right track.

I was on the road by 8 o’clock and of course it was dark so naturally I went the wrong way.  It cost me about a kilometre which is so frustrating.

How far I’ve walked-

Along the way –

More of the same but that is soon to end after Leon. This tractor is ready to hit the field –

There are a few of these-

There were many kilometres of-

Finally I arrived at Sahagún. My feet were killing me and I couldn’t wait to get to the hostal. There are some nice paintings on the walls in the old town-

A cool looking church-

My hostel is the Albergue Peregrino de Santa Cruz-

We have a 2 bed room with private bath for 20 Euro-

There is a pilgrim meal offered at the hostel but it isn’t until 8 PM which is too late for me to eat. So, we,  Katherine from Scotland is our new addition-

spent the afternoon in the Plaza Mayor-

having a pilgrim’s meal. The ensalada mixta was excellent-

so was the wine!  At 6:30 we went to the pilgrim’s mass-

and at 7 PM we were blessed.  All we pilgrims-

had to go up to the front of the church, say a prayer together-

while the Mother Superior of the monastery blessed us-

At the entrance to the church is the arch of San Benito which was originally the entrance to the chapel of San Mancio-

Tomorrow we are walking 17.7 km which should be a walk in the park compared to the last few days. I’m looking forward to a great sleep and a painless walk!

P.S.
