Riyadh, Saudi Arabia December 14, 2022
I had another slow day but I did manage to go for a walk. I strolled through a high end mall - Cartier, Tiffany, Michael Kors, Gucci, Boucheron etc. As per usual, it was empty because the Saudis come out in the evenings. Later, I did find one interesting building –
I also came across a Muslim cemetery. The dead are wrapped in a shroud and buried. There are no headstones except piles of rocks and this cemetery is full and closed-
I found a Turkish restaurant for lupper and had kibbeh, tabouleh and a za’atar pie which they made right in front of me. First they rolled the dough round and flat, then spread the za’atar which is a mixture of ground thyme or oregano, cumin, coriander, toasted sesame seeds, sumac, chili flakes and salt. It’s kind of like pesto-
It went into the oven for about 3 minutes-
It was delicious!
We have a long drive day tomorrow as we make our way to Abha, 1070 km away.
